Kindness

I've come to believe that kindness is the most important thing,

Through the stages of my life, it's been a recurring theme,

Those who showed me kindness, when I was very small,

Gave me a treasured memory, the most valued gift of all.

It seems kindness these days, is so very rare,

Generosity and compassion, her sister gifts so fair,

They say that it costs nothing, but it is so seldom given,

A smile, a sweet encouragement, makes life more worth the living.

God created our hearts, to respond to love and light,

The milk of human kindness, the sweetest elixir of life.

We want buckets of it at Christmas, enough to last all year,

Because for all the other days, the lack of it is clear.

Even among God's people the absence is clearly missed,

Yet, I am coming to realise, without it I can't exist,

If only we could try, small acts of kindness every day,

To demonstrate love and gratitude, is clearly the only way.

They say that love is an action, a verb, a doing word,

To believe it exists without kindness, is really quite absurd.

How can one know something, which clearly isn't shown?

I am sure that only kindness, makes a heart feel at home.

We have a Father, whose loving kindness is better than life,

One second in His glorious presence, erases a lifetime of strife.

Lord bless me with the kindness of others, as I walk along the way,

May we delight in those moments together, when I am in heaven to stay.
