Jesus Christ, the same, Yesterday, today and forever!

Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever.

Hebrews 13 v 8 tells us that, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.

I have really been stirred, and challenged lately by studying the book of Daniel.

Particularly about the way we see Jesus in our minds eye, as a weak and defeated man dying in humility and shame on the cross.

Rather than an all powerful, radiant, eternal super hero!

Recently, I have been asking God to make me a hero, I just want to serve Him well, like the heroes of the faith that I admire.

God, revealed to me this weekend, to be a hero, I need to have great faith.

That is the requirement, faith is the super power!

In beautiful synchronicity, the other thought, that is absolutely blowing my mind right now, is how awesomely great Jesus actually is!

Daniel saw a vision of Jesus, in the Old Testament.

" I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen with a belt of fine gold around His waist.

His body was like topaz, his face like lightening,

His eyes like flaming torches, His arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and His voice like the sound of a multitude. "

Daniel 10 v 5 ~6

What is so interesting to me is Daniels reaction to this vision.

In verses 15 - 17 it says Daniel bowed towards the ground,

All his strength went out of his body and he couldn't speak, he was so overwhelmed by this vision of Jesus.

He was like a dead man in the face of the awesomeness and holiness of Jesus.

If you look at this vision and compare it to Revelation 1 v 13 ~ 17

" One like the Son of Man, dressed in a robe reaching down to His feet and with a golden sash around His chest.

The hair on His head was white like wool, as white as snow, His eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.
In His right hand He held seven stars, and coming out of His mouth was a sharp, double edged sword.
His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance"

Both verses are trying to describe the indescribable!

They can only compare the beauty and radiance of Jesus with precious stones and reflective polished metal.

One, describes His face as being like lighting, another with hair as white as snow.

A few times in my life, I have seen white lighting that makes night look like daytime, in a flash of bright white light. So I can relate to what the author is trying to say.

Somethings, however are difficult to find words to describe.

Both accounts are strikingly similar in their vision, despite the fact that they are written hundreds of years apart, by men in very different circumstances.

Daniel wrote before the coming of Jesus, he had a vision whilst in captivity in Babylon.

John, one of the original disciples, wrote after Jesus had lived His earthly life, been crucified, risen again, and had been taken up to heaven.

John saw in a number of visions the book of Revelation. The last book of the bible which relates to things which are to come, in the end times.

In verse 17 it says that John, fell at his feet as though he was dead!

Remember the disciple John had walked beside Jesus on earth, he had sat with Him, and they had eaten and talked together.

Yet seeing the glorified Jesus, he fell on his face as if he were dead!

My heart convicts me,

How many times do I talk to Jesus just in passing like a casual acquaintance?

How many times do I speak to Jesus, when I am tired and fall asleep mid sentence?

I find the time to watch movies on Netflicks, sometimes spending hours in front of the tv, only to give the King of Kings a few fleeting seconds of my time before I fall asleep!

I come before Jesus, with all my grumbles, difficulties and complaints!

Yes I know that we can take every moment thing to God in prayer.

But now, I plan to spend a few moments remembering who I am talking to.

The most powerful name in all creation. The King of the Universe,

                     Jesus
