How to bless everyone, even those who curse you!

In my previous blog, I mentioned that I have been studying blessings lately.
One thing in particular I wanted I wanted to know was how to bless those who curse you!
Its a tough one, its a tall order, and I for one, need supernatural help to do it!

Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
Bless those who curse you and pray for those who mistreat you.
Luke 6 v 27 & 28

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you
That you may be children of your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5 v 44

So I tried it!
I researched many blessings in scripture.
The Aaronic blessing became my firm favourite!
It is the only blessing given by God himself, and those three, beautiful lines of scripture, just say it all really!

 " The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face to shine upon you
And be gracious to you.
The Lord turn His face towards you
and give you peace. "
Numbers 24 - 26

So I settled down, closed my eyes in prayer, and began to bless every single person who had ever hurt me.
I began to feel the most beautiful, indescribable sense of peace that I didnt want to stop!
I spent many blissful hours, praying the Aaronic blessing over everyone I had ever met, literally everyone I knew.

I truly believe that when we pray for others, we get the gift that our heavenly Father so desperately longs to give us ~ Perfect peace!
I am convinced that this is the most precious gift. It is the gift that Jesus wanted to leave with us.
When you think of all the problems caused by stress and anxiety, all the wrong, and fearful decisions, it is easy to see why peace is so precious.

Jesus said to His disciples,
" Peace I leave with you,
My peace I give to you.
I do not give as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled
And do not be afraid.
John 14 v 27

You will keep in perfect peace
Those whose minds are steadfast
Because they trust in you.
Isaiah 26 v 3

The Hebrew word for peace is "Shalom" a word, which conveys, peace, wholeness, health, serenity, well being, contentment, harmony, an absence of negative stress, disturbance, tension, and conflict.
I truly felt it, a state of contented bless, a few moments of heavenly peace!
I had given everyone and everything to God and I truly felt brand new, made new!

I truly believe that praying scripture is extremely powerful.
The bible is crammed full of blessings
When we pray for others we could take a blessing, a psalm or a verse and use it as a framework to tailor a special prayer for them.
We can add other scriptures which may be helpful for them and that we feel led by the Holy Spirit to include.
Maybe they are going through something, they may be anxious, fearful, weary or sad.
Many of those who are unkind to us, are reflecting a deep sadness inside of them.
God knows their hearts, he knows what they are going through, and He can lead us to the right scriptures for them.
He can graciously work on our hearts too, to give us a new heart.

When praying for others, I love to use King Davids prayer for Solomon;

"And give my son Solomon the wholehearted
devotion to keep your commands."
 1 Chronicles 29 v 19

" And give ( ~~~~~~~) the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands. "

Another favourite is;

I pray that you would give (~~~~~~~)
A noble and good heart, which
hears your word, and retains it.
Luke 8 v 15

I have spent, many happy hours, composing scripture based prayers for my loved ones.
It is also a great idea, to compose special prayers for our neighbours, and non Christian friends.
Its another win, win!
As you pray for your friends, neighbours and loved ones, you are also memorising scripture.

The Hebrew word for blessing is " Berakhah" .
The word " Barukh" is an adjective, which describes that it is God who does the blessing.
Jews should say 100 berakhot, blessings each day!
Imagine if we said 100 blessings every day!
The idea is that they keep God constantly in their awareness, in their every waking moment.

I adore the musical, " Fiddler on the Roof, " particularly, where Topol asks the Rabbi if their is a blessing for sewing machines. " Why of course, says the Rabbi, there is a blessing for everything! "

There truly is a blessing for everything, even special blessings for junk food, there is even a specific blessing for a dorito!
When I visited a synagogue, last year, I took the opportunity to ask about this, it truly fascinated me that there were so many blessings.
The young man informed me, that if he were to take, and eat something without first acknowledging  God, even a crisp or sweet,  he would feel as though he were stealing from God!

It is food for thought!

How I would like to be in constant prayer, constantly blessing and constantly bringing God into my awareness, my every thought, my every waking moment.

God bless you dear reader.
